Skin Iowa’s Plasma Pen Fights Wrinkles, Sagging Skin, Scars

Do you want to combat wrinkles and thinning, sagging skin to look more youthful and refreshed? West Des Moines Skin Iowa Plasma Pen may be the solution for you.

West Des Moines Skin Iowa’s Certified Physicians Assistants Susan Schooler and Michon Leddy have more than 30 years of combined skin health care expertise and are excited to provide patients with the results the Plasma Pen offers. Skin Iowa’s highly trained and certified Plasma Pen specialist will deliver plasma fibroblasting to the areas of your face and body that you want rejuvenated. The plasma pen significantly tightens, lifts, resurfaces, and regenerates practically any area of the skin including:

• Accordion lines – the lines that form around the outside of the mouth when you smile

• Crow’s feet – those lateral wrinkles that extend from the outer corner of your eyes especially when you smile

• Forehead lines

• Jowls – loose skin around the jaw line

• Marionette lines – the creases or folds that run vertically from the outside corners of the mouth down to the chin

• Nasal labial folds (smile lines) – the folds that run from the sides of your nose down to the edge of your mouth

• Necklines, turkey neck – loose skin on the neck

• Scars – pockmarked skin caused by acne, chicken pox, infections, or other injuries

• Smoker’s lines (lipstick lines) – vertical wrinkles above and below your mouth

• Upper and lower eyelids – sagging skin or bags below the eye and/or drooping hoods above the eye

How does the Plasma Pen work?

The Plasma Pen converts electrical energy into an energized gas (called diatomic molecular nitrogen) and then transmits it to the skin’s surface from above. This causes a micro-trauma to the skin’s top layers (epidermal layer) while simultaneously heating and disrupting the deeper dermal structure (dermis), which causes new collagen to form. This Plasma Pen technique is called fibroblasting.

How long will it take to see results?

Once the area heals (which on average takes about 8 days) you will notice visible tightening of the skin with continuing improvements over the next three months. Results last 3 or more years and may be permanent. Plasma Pen skin-tightening results are impressive but if you have severe skin laxity issues, plastic surgery may be a better alternative. We offer free consultations and will only recommend this procedure if we think it is a good solution for you.

Is the Plasma Pen treatment painful?

The Plasma Pen procedure can be mildly to moderately uncomfortable. Pain levels are different for each person and some areas of the skin are more sensitive than other areas. To make you as comfortable as possible during the procedure, plasma pen specialist Sabrina Proffitt will apply a numbing cream to the areas to be treated approximately 45 minutes before using the Plasma Pen. This allows the numbing cream to take full affect before beginning the treatment.

Are there any risks involved with Plasma Pen treatments?

The Plasma Pen treatment is a very low risk procedure with minimal side effects, particularly when compared to cosmetic surgery or other more invasive procedures. However, no procedure is without risks and it’s important understand the possible after effects of the treatment including common issues such as:

• Swelling and bruising

• Scabbing and crusting

And less common issues such as:

• Skin discoloration

• Scarring

How much downtime can I expect after a Plasma Pen treatment?

There IS downtime. Immediately after the procedure you will notice tiny red marks across the treated areas. The next, day, these marks will intensify and there will likely be redness and swelling in the treated area(s) for the next three days. After day 3, the swelling subsides and scabs form. Scabs normally begin to fall off around day 6 and 7 (for face and neck). Most people can expect an average of 8 days of healing on the face and neck areas and 10 to 14 days on the body, depending on the area being treated and the intensity of the treatment.

Note that these are only guidelines for average healing time. Your results may vary. People who smoke or drink alcohol or pick or scrub the areas may be slower to heal. If your health is compromised in any way, this can also extend your healing time and negatively affect your results.

Does the Plasma Pen work on all skin types?

No. Darker skin tones (African American, African, Latin, Native American, Indian, Middle Eastern, Asian ancestry and people of mixed ethnicities) may not good candidates for Plasma Pen as permanent scarring may occur. We offer free consultations and will not risk performing the Plasma Pen procedure if your skin type is not a good candidate. We will offer alternative suggestions that may be a better solution for you.
