Providers
A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Susan Schooler reached her career decision upon completing courses at Des Moines Area Community College, entering the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated with a B.S. in the Physician Assistant program (AMA Accredited); the year 1992 saw her receive her National Certification (NCCPA) with awards in Primary Care and Surgery, with further certifications in 2005.
Schooler began her professional career with Wolfe Clinics in 1992, under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Hill, a prominent name in both ENT and facial plastics in Marshalltown, Cedar Falls, and Des Moines, Iowa. While working with Dr. Hill, Susan created one of the first skin health departments in the state of Iowa for non-invasive facial rejuvenation. Afterwards Schooler developed and managed an independent skin care provider (Visage) which became one of the largest in Iowa.
In 2000 Schooler joined Dr. Ronald S. Bergman, D.O., the premier plastic surgeon in Iowa and director of Mercy Hospital’s limb trauma center, where she created and managed a new dermatology practice to complement his plastic surgery while continuing her Visage non-invasive skin care business. She also developed the largest Botox, laser, and filler product practice in the Midwest.
Schooler’s further professional experience was in Kansas City with the noted Dr. Tretbar who introduced sclerotherapy in the United States. For peels and skin rejuvenation she studied with Dr. Zein Obagi, the pioneering Beverly Hills cosmetic dermatologist. And to learn the utmost possible about Botox Susan traveled to Paris, France, studying with Dr. Alastair Carruthers who pioneered the use of botulism toxin for wrinkles of the face.
Today Susan Schooler’s professional activity is not limited to her daily practice. She lectures on dermatology and plastic surgery at Des Moines University, College of Health Sciences. Dozens of Medical students have followed through her daily practice as their preceptor. She is also co-chair of the College of Health Sciences Alumni Council. As a native of Ankeny, Iowa, she is also involved in local charity work.
