What is GentleLase® Hair Removal?

GentleLase® is an advanced laser technology provided by Candela® Medical. It is specifically designed for laser hair removal and offers a safe and effective solution for individuals seeking to reduce unwanted hair growth.

How Does It Work?

GentleLase® emits a precise wavelength of laser light that is absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles. This process heats and damages the follicles, inhibiting future hair growth while preserving the surrounding skin.

What are the benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

  • FDA-approved for permanent hair reduction.
  • No “down time”. Immediately resume regular activities.
  • Less pain and discomfort compared to other treatment methods.
  • Large areas can be quickly treated.
  • Chances of scarring and pigmentation change are minimized.

What is treatment like?

Preliminary setup involves cleansing and shaving the area to be treated. A laser is then directed toward the area and produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, controlled pulses oflight penetrate the skin and are absorbed by hair follicles. The heat generated in the process discourages and ultimately destroys the hair and its potential for regrowth. Post-treatment includes a clean up of the treated area and the application of a sunblock. Large areas such those found on the back, shoulders, abdomen, and legs are rapidly treated. Smaller facial areas like the lip, chin, and beard can be treated in minutes.

Will the treatments hurt?

The procedure is well tolerated by most patients since only a mild sting is felt. Local anesthesia and pain medication are not required. A topical anesthetic may be used for the treatment of more sensitive areas.

Are they any adverse reactions to treatment?

Side effects are rare. You may experience temporary redness and a mild “sunburn”- like effect that may last a couple hours. Sensitivity, irritation, and redness may occur at the treatment site but then quickly disappears. Susceptibility to these side effects will be identified during your consultation. To greatly minimize the risk of side effects, sun exposure must be limited prior to and immediately following treatment.

How many laser sessions will be needed?

During the procedure, the technician will guide the laser over the treatment area. As the laser pulses intermittently, it delivers light energy, which travels through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles. Hair follicles in the anagen growth phase have more pigment than follicles in the other inactive phases of the growth cycle. Therefore, they are able to absorb the light energy delivered by the laser. Those hair follicles that absorb energy, or heat, from the laser will be damaged. Hairs that were present in the follicles at the time of treatment will fall out, and future hair growth will be impaired. As not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, a single procedure will not treat all of the hair follicles in the area. As the follicles in the transitional and resting periods return to the active growth phase, you may notice some hair growth in the region. This is why multiple treatments are usually required to treat a single area completely.

We recommend 4-6 treatments to effectively treat all hair follicles.

What color of hair is less effective to be treated with the laser machine?

Laser Hair Removal is less effective in the following hair colors/types: Red, Blonde and gray.

What is the interval period between sessions?

Normally laser hair removal treatments are spaced from three to eight weeks in between sessions depending on the body area and the hair cycle for that area. In general small areas are treated every 4 to 5 weeks and large areas 8 to 10 weeks.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

No, laser hair removal is only a permanent reduction of hair and it is recommended that the customer continue to treat their areas every couple of months for maintenance to keep the area hairless.

Is six sessions of Laser Hair Removal enough to be completely hairless?

The results from a laser hair removal procedure depend on your skin tone, your hair type, and the growth phase of the hair being treated. It is important to realize that laser hair removal will likely not prevent hair from growing completely. However, laser hair removal can reduce hair growth significantly over time giving your skin the smooth appearance that you desire.

How long does the actual laser hair removal procedure last?

Depending on the are each laser hair removal procedure can last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes.
